| 10:15am-12:15pm | E/M Documentation and Coding in Your Pain Management Practice |
| Accurate documentation has many functions – It is a key to excellent patient care as a communication tool between providers. It also may be the only support your provider may has in a medical malpractice claim. Last but not least it is also linked to reimbursement and subject to payer scrutiny. Even with well documented Evaluation and Management (E/M) services, assigning codes is no easy task. In a time of decreased reimbursement, it is more important than ever to capture all of your Pain Management provider’s E/M work: 1) Common Pain Management documentation shortfalls, including your time-based visits, 2) Why you should be wary of “copy & paste” documentation, 3) How to apply the Medicare E/M Guidelines to your Pain Management practice, 4) Distinguish when a “new” patient may not really be a new patient in terms of E/M coding, and 5) Modifier 25: Differentiate when you should and shouldn’t use it | |

| Time is quickly running out! – 2011 is the year you must implement electronic prescribing (e-Rx) or be subject to payment penalties from Medicare. You don’t have to have a EHR system to participate in the Medicare incentive program. More importantly, e-Rx offers solutions to improve patient safety and compliance: 1) What is the Medicare “carrot and stick” incentive program for e-Rx, 2) How does e-Rx work, 3) The CMS requirements for a qualified e-Rx system, 4) How to participate in the Medicare e-Rx incentive program if your practice doesn’t have a EMR system, 5) Is your Pain Management provider eligible to report one of the exemptions? and 6) e-Rx and controlled substances: What’s in store now and in the future? | |

| 9:00am – 10:00am | Coding for Pain Management’s Advanced Procedures and New Technologies (part 1) |
| One of the things that makes coding and billing for pain management so challenging is the fact that it is constantly changing as new technologies emerge. Are there new codes that accurately describe these interventions or are you forced to submit the poorly reimbursed unlisted codes? At this session you will be given the tools to correctly code the MILD, TruFUSE, Disc-Fx, AccuraScope and other new technologies. In addition, improve your understanding of high ticket procedures like stimulators and pumps. Crucial information on payer policies for these procedures will be included so you can prevent your practice from being blindsided by denials that can adversely affect your bottom line. Join us for these informative sessions and leave feeling more confident in your ability to report the most advanced pain management services. | |
