10:15am-11:15am Endourology Update 2012: Maximizing Procedural Coding, Eradicating Confusion and Updating Rules and Regulations
As technology continues to advance, urologists are performing more and more complex surgeries using a variety of endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotics instruments. The changes present unique challeges in your coding that if not coded correctly may cost you money and set up your practice for an audit. In addition, uteroscopic and endourology coding may or may not be bundled, so when treating stones, tumors, or performing reconstruction, learn what is and is not billable and avoid costly mistakes that could wreak havoc on your practice if not properly coded. Learn the proper coding and secrets for unlocking maximal billing for these newer procedures and techniques. Discover the secrets to ureteroscopy payments and learn when you can — and can’t — override CCI edits.
Presenter: Jonathan Rubenstein, MD
11:15am-12:15pm Inpatient vs. Observation vs. Extended Recovery: Know the Rules and Risk Denials
A new perspective in 2012! Patients using hospital beds are not always “admitted” to the hospital, which can create significant confusion and lead to denials. This session will help you understand the critera to determine patient status, proper documentation requirements for each status, and accurate billing and coding for each situation. Learn these vital information to reduce the risk of denials and maximize your billing. Plus get some insights on how global periods affect billing. Don’t leave money on the table by not understading these guidelines!!

1:15pm-2:15pm Radiological Coding for the Urologist
Many urolgist do not know that they may bill for performing radiological procedures and also for their interpretation of the x-rays and films. This hour long presentation will review the radiological services performed by urologists, and how they may code, bill, and be paid for these various services and interpretations of the radiological studies. This will include the proper coding to remain compliant and accurate for these services rendered either in the hospital or office. Included will be the coding for IVPs, the variuos cystograms, CTs, sonogragphy, and other radiological servives that a urologist may perform.
Presenter: Michael A. Ferragamo, Jr., MD, FACS
2:15pm-3:15pm Coding for the Treatment of Postoperative Complications and Coding for Payable Services provided within the Global Period.
Although most services performed in a global period are not payable, there are many services that are payable, and not knowing and not billing for these services can amount to large amounts of unpaid services. This presentation will identify these services and show which services may be paid when billed with and without certain modifiers. Many of these services revolve around postoperative complications and their treatment as well as other services (E/M) within the global period.
Presenter: Michael A. Ferragamo, Jr., MD, FACS
